Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964 in Oakland; California is the 49th vice president of the United States. Making history as the first Black woman to have been elected vicepresident, but this is not the only position she has had in which she is the first black woman. She was also the first woman to be elected District Attorney in San Francisco as well as the first woman to be Attorney General. Harris is truly a remarkable woman who is persistent and who reached to be more than what people perceived of her as well as a role model to the female race.

Kamala has shown to be a strong and persistent woman from what we have seen her do, but this was not something she learned from school, but from her own actions at a young age. When she was 13-years old, Kamala and her sister protested in front of their apartment building in protest of a policy that banned children from playing on the lawn. At 13-years old, we want many things for ourselves, but Kamala fought for many. This was something she learned from her mother Shyamala Gopalan; fight for what you want and what is right. Kamala’s persistence and belief in herself also made her challenge her family’s skepticism in wanting to be a prosecutor; prosecutors often have a bad reputation and she wanted to change that from the inside.

As seen by many others, Kamala Harris is an amazing woman and a role model to me. I am someone who has always wanted to see a female do bigger and better things, and from what Ihave researched and seen of her, she will continue to do just that. Like most woman, she is persistent in what she wants and never stops trying. I rooted for Kamala Harris from the start of the Presidential race and was very happy to see that she made it to be the first female Vice President. Lastly, she lives by a motto that came from her mother that I will always keep in my head which is:

“You may be the first, but make sure you’re not the last.”

También fue la primera mujer en ser elegida Fiscal de Distrito en San Francisco, así comola primera mujer en ser Fiscal General. Harris es verdaderamente una mujer notable que es persistente y que llegó a ser más de lo que la gente percibía de ella, así como un modelo a seguir para la raza femenina.

Kamala ha demostrado ser una mujer fuerte y persistente por lo que la hemos visto hacer, pero esto no fue algo que aprendió de la escuela, sino de sus propias acciones a una edad temprano. Apoyé a Kamala Harris desde el comienzo de la carrera presidencial y estaba muy feliz de ver que ella logró ser la primera mujer vicepresidenta. Por último, vive de un lema que vino de su madre y que siempre tendré en mi cabeza que es:

“Puede que seas el primero, pero asegúrate de no ser el último”.
